New Publicity Coordinator
The Laurentian Chapter welcomes John Barron as our new Publicity Coordinator.
John arrived in Ottawa, Ontario from home town Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1983 with outdoor interests that already included the mountains of Maine and New Hampshire as well parts of the west. He soon climbed Marcy, and began hiking regularly in the High Peaks. In 1992 he decided the 46 were within reach, and devoted the hiking time that two small children allowed to completing them. Finishing in 2001, he decided to get to know the Adirondack region better by participating on, and later leading, trips in the Laurentian Chapter.
John works in the engineering department of the Canadian Coast Guard Headquarters. His wife, Jean Giblin, from Dublin, Ireland, is a telecommunications design manager and an experienced outdoor person also. Children Niall (thirteen, and holds the Kids on the Trail award) and Fiona (ten) are following in their footsteps.
You will see the fruits of Johnís labors in the photos included in this newsletter, which are taken from recent news releases. Please join in welcoming John into this position, and also note thanks to Dick Mooers for his efforts in previously holding this position and in expanding our activities in the area of post-trip news releases and photos.
Please email trip photos to John at BarronJ@DFO-MPO.GC.CA. Please identify the persons in your photo, if possible. We continue to need high resolution digital photographs from each outing, not only for publicity purposes, but for building a digital photo archive.
