Friends of Mt Arab Seeks Volunteers
The Friends of Mt Arab are looking for volunteers to work at the fire tower greeting hikers this fall. The cabin has been repaired for use as an interpretive facility. Inside are informational displays, brochures, photo albums and maps. Currently there are college students who work at the summit to answer questions and provide information to visitors. Unfortunately the students will return to school before the tourist season is over.
There are quite a few people who climb the mountain to enjoy the view when the leaves are turning color. Additionally, several school teachers routinely bring their classes to Mt Arab for field trips. We would like to have a person accompany the groups to the summit and explain the aspects of nature and the history of the setting. The goal is to have a volunteer on the weekends through Columbus Day, and somebody available during the week to meet the school children. We expect the schools to notify us in advance so we can arrange to provide the representative.
