Chapter at Remington Gala
The Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg held its annual fund raising gala in December. This year’s theme was An Adirondack Winter Evening, and in honor of the occasion the gala’s organizing committee invited the ADK Laurentian Chapter to set up an informational table about the Chapter and the Club.
Jim Bullard and John Barron accepted the invitation. The display featured maps, posters, photos, guidebooks, small give-away items, and related materials from ADK Headquarters, as well as current outing schedules and photographs of past trips from the Chapter. Jim, who is a semi-professional artist, was equipped with display materials sometimes used at craft fairs.
We had two portable computers. One was running a PowerPoint presentation developed by ADK Headquarters that illustrated all the many facets of ADK activities. The other cycled through a series of professional-quality Adirondack scenic photographs Jim had taken.
We greatly enjoyed the evening, and talking with guests at the glittering event. Those who spent time with us seemed to have widely varying reasons for interest. Some had anecdotes to tell us about their own outdoor experiences, both in the North Country and in wilderness areas far away. Some, not surprisingly as it was an artistic community, appreciated the quality of the scenic photos or the production quality of our PowerPoint video. A number of people took membership applications, and with luck some will join and we might see them out on the trails.
