Piercefield Dam Whitewater Release
The first annual recreational flow release from Brookfield Power’s Piercefield dam will be Saturday, June 24. The release will provide 750 cfs flow on the river down to the Carry Falls Reservoir. Note that the spring flow is generally more than 750 cfs, and this late June release is intended to extend the season.
Piercefield is located on the Racquette River downstream from Tupper Lake. This section of the river is described by Jamieson and Morris in the Piercefield to Moody Falls and Moody Falls to Carry Falls sections of their book, Adirondack Canoe Waters - North Flow. The Class IV and V sections are relatively brief and can be portaged. Class II and II whitewater experience is needed for the trip.
