Calling Kids for Camp Colby
In the past, our chapter has sponsored and paid for a child to attend Lake Colby Environmental Education Camp.
This summer camp, located just outside the village of Saranac Lake, is for youths who are 12 to 14 years old. Group members learn science, solve challenges, play games, keep a journal, catch salamanders, net butterflies and discover the interconnectedness of life on earth. The college-educated counselor staff guides all activities, encouraging participation and respect among group members while interpreting the natural world for campers. Additionally, campers choose from a variety of optional activities throughout the week that introduce them to outdoor pursuits and pastimes. Experiences include fishing, canoeing, archery, exploring a bog and overnight camping trips. There are several week-long options throughout the summer.
If you know of a child residing in our county who may enjoy this experience, please contact Rose Rivezzi. Rose will send information about an essay the applicant will need to write to be considered. Essays will be due early in February.
