Gloria Daly Completes the Winter 46
On the last day of winter, Gloria Daly completed the Winter 46. With the season coming to a close and only the three-peak Seward Range remaining, Gloria, who remembers being consumed by “Peak Fever”, contacted every winter mountaineer she could think of, finally assembling a climbing party consisting of Andrea & Robert Wright and Hollis Easter.
Starting at 5:30 AM, the climbers used ice traction devices to cope with sheer ice at lower elevations as well as snowshoes for deep snow higher up. They covered twenty one miles during more than thirteen hours, touching the summits of Donaldson (twice) and Emmons before continuing to the final peak of Gloria’s quest, Seward Mountain, where a member of another party photographed, left to right, Andrea, Gloria, Robert, and Hollis.
From the Laurentian Chapter and all who love the mountains, “Bravo!” to Gloria.
