Friends of Higley Flow Begin Capital Campaign
The Friends of Higley Flow State Park have begun a capital campaign for a
new all-season lodge at the Park. Higley Trails Lodge will be an all-season,
multipurpose structure, with bathrooms, heat during winter, and it will
be accessible to the handicapped. It will also have classroom space and a venue
for special events, guest speakers, and other types of activities.
Local schools will be able to use the facility in conjunction with field trips. Now, there are no public bathrooms at the park for nine months of the year, which diminishes the opportunity for local schools, colleges, and other groups to use the park. The Friends group plans to have the facility open for general use on weekends during ski season.
The facility will be located adjacent to the winter parking area where the
trailheads for the cross-country ski trails are located. Approximately
$60,000 has already been raised as donations or in-kind contributions. Additional
help is being actively sought from businesses, organizations, and individuals
- in the form of contributions of funds or commitments of labor or supplies.
This project will enhance the experience of year-round users of the Park, and make the best local ski trails even more attractive. Additional details are available at http://www.higleyfriends.org/capitalcampaign.html.
