Red Sandstone Trail Report
The Red Sandstone Trail, which runs from Hannawa Falls to the north tip of Sugar Island, has experienced high water damage like much of the rest of the North Country. Brookfield taped it “closed” for a few weeks in May and June. Bridges were swept away or disarranged, gulches washed out, and ponds replaced paths in some places. By June the bridge between Hannawa fire department and the Parmeter Quarry has been replaced, bog bridges on Sugar Island have been re-positioned and covered with chicken-wire for better footing, and a design is being developed to span the gulch beside Sugar Island Flow. Brookfield’s Raquette River Advisory Council has funded these repairs. If in your walks on the trail you discover problems, contact John Omohundro, email@example.com, who represents ADK on the RRAC.
