Spring Outing A Great Success!
Spring Outing 2013 is now history, and we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. The weather was perfect for two days and drenching rain for one. Every outing but one went ahead with a good turnout. We were able to match up everyone who wanted to be matched up, thanks to some creative shifting among the trips. All outings were enjoyed, even those in the rain. Only one outing was cancelled - we still don’t know quite how it fell through the cracks; its participants were redistributed on other trips and all was well.
There had to be a lot of last-minute adjustments, as we anticipated. The biggest one may have concerned the planetarium show. Construction crews swept into Stowell Hall three days before the Outing, and within an hour it was declared a hazardous area and off limits. Many thanks to presenter Jeff Miller, who replaced it with a live viewing of the moon from a telescope and powerful binoculars in Lehman Park. With a little help from the fine weather, the views were exceptional.
Turnout for the concert by Peggy Lynn, Dan Berggren, Dan Duggan surpassed our hopes, and the audience included many who traveled a long distance just for the concert.
Thanks to SUNY Potsdam/PACES for providing a fine barbeque and banquet, to Jamie Savage for playing at Happy Hour, and to all the volunteers who made the Spring Outing a success.
For historical reference, the Spring Outing website will be available for awhile at springouting2013.
