Chair: Tom Ortmeyer
I enjoyed seeing many of you in the past months on outings, at the Outdoor Indoors series, and/or at the Mud Season potluck dinner. As is typical, I didn't get out on as many outings as I would have liked during this past winter and spring, but those I did get to were excellent. I'm planning to get out on more this summer, and hope to see you on one of these. My thanks go out to all who made these programs possible - the officers, trip leaders, speakers, and other volunteers.
I am pleased to let you know that Club Executive Director Neil Woodworth will be our guest at the Fall Potluck and Annual Meeting, which will be held November 4 at the Potsdam Presbyterian Church. Full details will be in the fall newsletter.
Membership will continue to be a concern for the chapter as well as the club. While our numbers are steady, it is good to spread the word when we get a chance. Our news releases do a great job of this - I've heard from many who enjoy seeing these, and I imagine that you have as well. Several of us - Geri Ames, Betsy Tisdale, Jim Bullard, and my wife Ann and I - spent a weekend in March at the Massena Expo. It was a great opportunity to talk to people about our programs, show them our slide shows, and hand out brochures. We had a good time doing this, and we talked to a lot of people who enjoy the Adirondacks.
I believe that the best way to get people involved with the club is by inviting them to come along on an outing. At the Expo, I
was surprised by the number of people who either
(a) thought our trips were for members only, or
(b) thought all of our trips were too ambitious for them.
I suspect that our summer schedule has something for almost everyone who is interested in the Adirondacks,
and I encourage you to invite a friend along on a suitable outing.
